Team Page:

Welcome to the home page of the Houston Irons team for the 2018 Run for the Rose 5k Run/Walk.

Those who were a part of the team or donated in 2017 will be familiar with the event and cause. In April of 2016 I was diagnosed with a brain tumor that required surgery, radiation and chemotherapy treatment. Due to the immense support of the medical team at Methodist Hospital and my family and friends, I was able to announce that I was cancer free on June 6th 2017.

I was joined in my team by brothers Alister and Oliver and wives Jennifer, Pili and Georgie and close friends Donna and Dave Steadman. Between us we were able to raise $4630 in just a few weeks prior to the event.

People who were close to me knew how important staying active was during my treatment, being part of the Run for the Rose on April 2nd was a great big middle finger to cancer, that during a monthly chemotherapy treatment course that I could not only run 5k, but do so competitively. I followed Alister (in 1st place overall) with a 10th place finish with Oliver coming in a few places behind me.

This year I'd like as many people as possible to join Jenn and I on the course, and have a number of additional perks and events lined up for team members and supporters of the Houston Irons. If you cannot make it to Houston on April 8th, 2018, then you are challenged register as a 'sleep in' competitor and run 5k on your own time and post proof online.

This is an amazing event in memory of heroes that have fought brain cancer, those who are fighting and those give their lives in support.

About the Cause:

The Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation was founded in 2002 in memory of Dr. Marnie Rose, a 28-year-old pediatric resident who passed away from what is considered one of the deadliest of human cancers, a glioblastoma (or GBM). The mission of the Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation is to eradicate brain cancer through the funding of research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and to better the lives of the brave young patients at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital who were so dear to Marnie's heart.
